Every diamond is unique.
Each reflects the story of its arduous journey from deep inside the earth to a cherished object of adornment.
Yet all diamonds share certain features that allow us to compare and evaluate them. These features are called the 4Cs.
The 4Cs represents the globally accepted standard for describing diamonds: Carat weight, Colour, Clarity, and Cut
The pear shaped diamond or pear shaped modified brilliant has always been loved for its resemblance to a teardrop. It is a combination of a round and marquise brilliant cut.
It is possible for pear shaped diamonds to encounter the bow tie effect when the stone has not been cut at an optimum angle. This can be seen as a dark area in the shape of a man's bow tie and is usually easily spotted in the centre of the stone.
Ancardi's gemmologists also look at the girdle thickness with a pear shaped stone, as a girdle that is too thin may cause the tip of the stone to be fragile. A girdle that is too thick on the other hand may cause problems in setting the stone.
